New York during Christmas
Celebrating the Christmas season coast to coast
This is my first post of my blog and wanted to share the last trip we did for 2018. We had a trip booked to New York City in December but after my grandfather passed away Thanksgiving week I really didn't want to go anywhere. My husband suggested lets go to our favorite places instead of just New York, to make the trip exciting. Since my husband is very spontaneous and I'm not I'm a planner and like to have an itinerary for our trip I agreed and said why not. Since we already had tickets (which I got on sale months before during a Southwest sale) our first stop was NYC, then he asked me to pick another destination, of course I suggested Disney World and he agreed (he's totally not into the mouse but he did this for me, to make me happy and to get my mind distracted) and he decide on the last destination which was San Francisco so he could see his sister along with checking out San Fran. This trip was 4 days long so we spent exactly one day at each destination, so it was ALOT of walking a little sleeping but we had a blast, First stop was New York, we stayed at the TownePlace Suites in Manhattan, a Marriott owned hotel on 44th St. The hotel nightly rates during the Christmas season are really high, I found this hotel at the lowest rate at $270 a night but couldn't complain it was right near to the Theater district, just steps from Time Square and we had a very quiet night sleep. We took a train to the hotel from the airport ($40 for both of us), had to walk a few blocks after getting off the train at Madison Square Garden, hotel had free breakfast and we went back to the airport early morning with a Uber ($40 one way). While in NYC we ate at the famous Carmine's which was steps from our hotel on 44th St, reservation are recommended but we walked in waited a little and ate at the bar. The meals are so large we shared, food was outstanding as well as the service. After dinner we had to walk off the food and went to Times Square, this was our 5th time to NYC so we knew the drill, just wanted to see the Rockefeller tree was mine main agenda. (I love Christmas trees and the spirit of Christmas), we took a few selfies and pics in Times Square and took in the "wow factor" of the lights and larger than life essence of the area then headed to Rockefeller center. We we're busy talking and my husband nudge me and said there it is! I turned and saw the massive, beautifully lit Rockefeller Christmas tree, I even shed a tear when I saw it replaying everything that had happened the past few weeks in my head, my grandfathers passing, a large event I coordinate at work that takes everything out of me, and then planning this trip. I finally saw what I've been waiting for and all it's beauty. Christmas is my favorite holiday since I was a little girl, I always loved decorating for Christmas when I was a child, the special memories of family while we celebrated Christmas, also when I bought a beautiful Christmas tree on the side of the road, when I saw it I swear it glowed, it was just perfect. at the time I didn't take into consideration the height of my parents house so when we brought the tree in the house, the tip was leaning against the ceiling like the National Lampoons Christmas tree, lol! but I loved that tree! So you can understand my fondness for the holiday this is why seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree is such a big deal. So back to the tree, after we took some pics and headed to Saks for the Christmas light show we went in for some shopping then headed back to our hotel while taking pictures of all the Christmas décor along the way. On a side note while in the area if you haven't been to Radio City Music hall to see the famous Rockettes, this is defiantly a must do, it is spectacular. Since we arrived late in NYC our quick tour of the city was done and we had to head back to the hotel, we don't spend lots of money on souvenirs anymore, most of the items we have purchased thru the year wind up in a donation pile but I always do buy my son a t-shirt and myself one item be it makeup, clothing item, a small painting or jewelry, that's how I remember the location I visit. Once we arrived back at the hotel we packed and prepared our clothes for the next day, we had to get up at 5am so comfy clothes and dry shampoo we're laid out, lol! We had a great time in NYC, we went on a Monday the second week of December and the crowds were very limited and the weather was nice, cool for a jacket but no snow. Thank you for reading my blog for NYC, my next post will be on our next stop during our coast to coast trip in December, Orlando.
